My Capsule Wardrobe

I finally did it! I have a simple minimal and cohesive capsule wardrobe! Getting to this point was a long process of letting go and refining.  I am so happy to be on the other side of that process now.  I learned so much about myself and grew in intentionality along the way.

When I set out to declutter my clothing, I made a list of words to describe my ideal wardrobe.  It helped me get rid of some of those β€œI don’t know” pieces and also gave me an intentional goal to keep in mind. I wanted to create a capsule wardrobe that was beautiful and supported my vocation as a wife and mother. This meant clothes that were feminine yet able to get dirty. Clothes that reflected my values as a Catholic Homemaker.

My List of Words:

This is the list of what I desired my wardrobe to be:

  1. Feminine- I wanted the pieces to fit well, be flattering and modest. Looking at my clothing I found some gender neutral styles that I was ready to part with for a more feminine style.  I wanted the pieces to be beautiful

  2. Vocation Friendly- I wanted them to be comfortable and to serve my needs well as a mother and homemaker.  They would need to work well when playing on the floor with my girls, to look nice without caring if I got food and fingerprints on them.  I didn’t want to keep anything that was uncomfortable to move around in or needed any kind of adjusting.  I wanted to have a few good nursing friendly options for this particular season as well.

  3. As for Colors, Textures, Patterns: I wanted warm neutrals and autumn colors, a variety of textures- all soft with a favoring towards ribbed textures, and florals! No more stripes- bring in the florals!!!

  4. Versatile- This is the main goal of a capsule wardrobe but was important for me to keep in mind while I was creating it. I wanted the clothes to mix and match well. And for them to fit a variety of needs, from everyday wear to Sunday best.

  5. Lastly, I wanted to start to find clothing that was β€œscapular friendly” - A scapular is a religious article that Catholics can choose wear under their clothing.  I want to wear my scapular daily but it can be challenging to wear with certain styles of clothing. I have made a few great swaps to make this more possible.

My Capsule Wardrobe for Fall/Winter

The items I am about to show you are specific for the fall and winter season. There are a few pieces stored in my closet for the spring and summer that I plan to swap out. Apart from those few pieces, I will keep most of the same items year-round. I created this capsule to work well in all 4 seasons.

I have a total of 45 pieces in my fall and winter capsule.  This includes tops, sweaters, pants, skirts, dresses, shoes, scarves, and purses. Not included in the count: Outerwear, Loungewear, Jewelry and Formal Attire - but these are minimal as well.
